Meeting was called to order at 6:52 p.m. and
was adjourned at 8:58 p.m. A total of 17 members present.
Arapahoe Sheriffs Department Mark Campbell
- Teenage drag racing is becoming a bigger problem, especially
after the recent movie
- Some racing done randomly, some by organized groups
- Some are turning off the headlights and racing in the dark
- Sheriff's department has a zero tolerance policy
- Construction of new sheriff's department building near
Centennial airport has started, hoping for completion next July
- Sheriff Sullivan expected to have hip replacement surgery
this month
Arapahoe Library District Eloise May
- Book sale will be held from the 13th to the 16th of
September at Koelbel Library
- Castlewood library is starting a teen newsletter
- Patrons can now renew overdue books online or over a new
telephone renewal system
- Two investment/retirement programs will be held at Koelbel
library
- Understanding Long Term Care and Your Retirement Outlook -
17 September from 7 to 9 PM
- It's When You Sell That Counts - 20 September from 7 to 8:30

- Byers library will be getting a new front entrance
Fire Districts - South Metro - Bob Rinne
- Cunningham - Jerry Rhodes
- South Metro, formerly Castlewood Fire, has been in existence
for 50 years
- One of the founding fire chiefs passed away two weeks ago
- Just completed land acquisition for new administration
building near Briarwood & Lima
- Public education demonstrations are available to HOAs on
fire prevention and/or injury prevention
- Fire departments team up with Arapahoe Sheriff's department
on safety & injury prevention talks
- Executive Director of Board of Health forming a task force
to work on problem of hospital diversions of medical emergencies
- Suggest everyone get flu shots because there are not enough
hospital beds available if many people get sick, especially around the holidays
- Fire districts working with TREX to ensure highway & RTD
station access for emergencies
- New area hospitals being built expect to be able to staff
the nursing positions, even with the nation-wide shortage
South Suburban Park & Recreation Jean Flynn
- Call the Fitness Department at 303-798-2476 for a personal
fitness assessment
- Looking for volunteers to help improve the community
playground at the Cherry Knolls park on 21 & 22 September
- There will be a clean up of trash in the South Platte River
corridor on 29 September, also needs volunteers
- Call Jean Flynn at 303-483-7016 to participate in either
event
- The "regional park" at the landfill (Colorado
& County Line) is becoming a reality
- Will be using a new hi-tech field turf, recycled automobile
tires and solar powered lighting
City of Centennial Mayor - Randy Pye
- The sales tax issue is still being discussed, but will
remain at 1.5 %
- Mill levy will also remain as promised, 4.982%, which is a
replacement of the same value previously collected by Arapahoe County
- Ballot will also ask for a temporary 4 year TABOR exemption
to retain the collected taxes, rather than returning them to taxpayers during that period
- Cathy Noon will head Citizens for Centennial's Foundation
committee to educate the voters on these issues, which are the same ones proposed 3 years
ago
- Arapahoe County wants to increase the county mill levy by 1
mill for the "development pathways" program relating to mental health issues
- Election information will be available at the libraries
- A volunteer is needed for the Centennial Airport Board
- 2 volunteers are needed for the Centennial Storm Water
Advisory Committee
- 23 City of Centennial signs will be installed on major roads
at the entrances to the city
- Founder's Day celebration at Family Fun Center starting at 6
PM on 15 September (postponed because of NY disaster)
- Street repairs by the city have started: Quebec &
Arapahoe is the major ($4 million) project to be completed about March 2002.
- Mineral avenue is also being "overlaid" with
asphalt and handicap ramps are being installed
- There will be an effort made next year to rename Arapahoe
Road to Centennial Parkway

- Volunteers are needed for the Storm Water Advisory committee
to represent CENCON
- Workshops are available to HOAs for guidance in running an
HOA
- A letter was written to Arapahoe County concerning the tax
mill levy collected by the county to pay for expenses now allocated to Centennial
- Secretary
- It was moved by Ty Henken, seconded by Claudette Cooper, and
unanimously voted by all CENCON members to approve the August meeting minutes
- Bylaws
The Bylaws, as sent to each member, were discussed along
with proposed changes suggested by Becky Manning of the Southglenn Civic Association. The
members decided that the proposed changes were not required. It was moved by Ted Conti,
seconded Michael Kirrane, and unanimously voted by all CENCON members to approve the
Bylaws as distributed. 17 members were present, and 4 proxy votes were submitted, which
provided the quorum necessary to adopt the Bylaws.

- A letter was sent to the Centennial area HOAs offering
membership in CENCON, along with an application form and recent newspaper article.
A disclaimer will be added to the CENCON web site that the
meeting minutes have not been approved as of the time of posting.
Seven formal developer plans were discussed. Comments from
the members were noted. It was moved by Michael Kirrane, seconded by Ty Henken, and
unanimously voted by all CENCON members to approve the plans with the comments as noted.
